We invite you to a lecture titled: “David DeCoteau: The Bastard of (Unwanted) American Cinema.”
David DeCoteau began pursuing his dream job at the age of 18, spending countless hours on film sets. Who is the man who started out alongside the legendary Roger Corman, was later given a chance by Charles Band, and ultimately became… a workhorse of countless niche productions, spoofs, flops, and schlock? From wild science fiction knock-offs, through showcases of muscular guys and twinks in embarrassingly bad horror films, to television productions straight out of Lifetime – this is David DeCoteau. You may never have heard of him, but after this event, you may decide that chasing your dreams is worth it. Even if you want to make films assembly-line style, and hardly anyone will watch them anyway. Except America.
The lecture will be given by Adrian Warwas. There will be no shortage of anecdotes, trivia, and clips from DeCoteau’s films.
Adrian Warwas is a film scholar and political scientist. He has published in, among others, “Horror Masakra” and on such websites as Bestiariusz (bestiariusz.pl), Gildia Filmu (film.gildia.pl), and Kalejdoskop Wrocław (kalejdoskop.wroclaw.pl). For a year and a half, he hosted “Premiera. A Magazine of New Film Releases” on Polish Radio Koszalin. From October 2014 to November 2018, he reviewed books in the “Czytadło” segment and hosted his own film programme, “Return to the Past,” on Radio Meteor UAM. He also coordinated editions of “Night Reading,” in which students read stories by Polish and international horror writers on air in the evening hours. For several years, he has prepared lectures for the Kino Konesera screenings at Helios cinema in Poznań and hosted the monthly Kino Kobiet meetings. He has also shared his expertise at events including the Pyrkon Fantasy Festival, the Kraków Horror Festival Kfason, and the Kapitularz Fantasy Festival in Łódź.
