Performed by: Ala Urwał
A performance by Ania Nowak that delivers a powerful statement, dismantling the language used by – and against – queer communities.
A text stripped of grammatical rules gives in to rhythm, becoming a tool of both resistance and pleasure. The piece was commissioned by Berlin’s HAU Hebbel am Ufer as part of the project Manifestos for Queer Futures. Referring to the history of minority resistance movements, the performance addresses the dangers of normativity and the need for embodied intersectionality in contemporary queer alliance-building. With courage and lightness, Nowak navigates the language of trauma, injury, empathy, and healing to question the identities, practices, and shortcuts we have come to take for granted – such as LGB or FtM.
It is an invitation to imagine a queer future that is yet to come.
