A feature-length film whose protagonists are queer migrants in search of a safe haven in Berlin – a city regarded as the most LGBTQ-friendly in Europe. Among those discovering the ups and downs of Berlin’s queer life are people in their 20s and 60s; gay men, trans people and non-binary folks; artists, drag performers, activists, and those living everyday lives. One of them has a leftist mother who took her to protests since childhood, another comes from a Muslim family – returning would mean risking her life. There are refugees from Syria and Russia, where their identities are criminalized, but also a migrant from liberal Portugal who finds it easier to afford transition in Germany. There is also a Polish thread: Szczecin, Frankfurt-Słubice, Białystok, the homophobus, pride marches and rosary or violent counter-protests.
The film is visually stunning, full of beautiful shots, showcasing plenty of amazing, uncompromising queer art and nudity in various contexts.
On June 6 (Friday) we invite you to Lokum Stonewall for a screening of this remarkable film, which was made by following the protagonists’ lives with a camera (these are not typical “talking heads”). The director, Jochen Hicks, accompanied them to protests where they were attacked, to their weddings, and to gender affirmation surgeries (hardcore footage). There are also incredible, unique archival recordings from the private and activist lives of the protagonists, dating back to the 1970s.
After the screening (duration: 1h45m, subtitles: Polish), there will be a Q&A session with Jochen Hicks and the featured guests: Mischa and Pacyfka.
Due to intense scenes, the screening is available to viewers aged 15+.
Come to watch, listen, and ask questions, whether:
🎬📽️ you enjoy films and art but know nothing about queers
🎥🎞️ you’re interested in migration or LGBT+ but think documentaries are boring
Organizer: Trans Pride Polska – the organizer of the March for Trans and Non-binary Rights in Poznań (this year on May 10) and the accompanying Poznań Trans Visibility Day.
