“Traces of queer history”. Meeting with Joanna Ostrowska

June 12, 2026, 6:00 PM
Atelier WIMAR Stowarzyszenie Łazęga Poznańska, 75 Święty Marcin Street
free admission

We invite all interested people to a meeting with Joanna Ostrowska – historian, researcher, queer activist and author of the books: “Przemilczane. Seksualna praca przymusowa w czasie II wojny światowej”, “Oni. Homoseksualiści w czasie II wojny światowej” and “Ślady. Historia pewnego archiwum”.

In 2021, Joanna Ostrowska was honoured with the Orfeo Iris 2021 ILGCN (International Rainbow Culture Network) award for research and publications devoted to the history of non-heteronormative people during World War II.

During the meeting, we will talk about Joanna Ostrowska’s books, which touch on difficult and often silenced topics – both concerning the history of queer people and their contemporary situation in the context of the changing socio-political atmosphere in Poland.

The starting point for the discussion will be Joanna Ostrowska’s story about the process of creating QueerMuzeum Warszawa. Would the creation of such a museum also be possible in Poznań? Together, we will reflect on the prospects of equal life for queer people in Poland – both on opportunities and on threats to freedom and human rights.

Admission to the meeting is free.

The meeting will be led by Maciej Krajewski – urban activist, founder of Stowarzyszenie Łazęga Poznańska and Atelier w Sercu Miasta, a space well known on the map of queer Poznań.
