Trans Identity and Literature

On June 10 at 6:00 PM at Scena na Piętrze (Masztalarska 8), we will gather:

🏳️‍⚧️ trans authors,

⚧️ writers whose fiction and non-fiction works feature trans / nonbinary characters,

📚 and literary scholars.

We’ll discuss autobiography, representation, visibility, and aspects of bookish-queer life that matter to us.

Participants:

🧬 Julia Durzyńska – author of the autofiction novel When the Sun Bakes Dreams, molecular biologist, professor at Adam Mickiewicz University.

🎭 Kristine Turowska – author of the novel Letters to E., poetry collection Thoughts of Another Woman, and the monodrama I Will Never Be a Woman, in which she plays the only role.

🪶 ariel rosé – poet, essayist, translator, illustrator. Published under the name Alicja Rosé: The Sea at Night Is a Heart Muscle and Midnight of the Parables.

👑 Paula Szewczyk – author of Foreign Bodies. Stories of Trans Identity. Journalist awarded the “Crown of Equality” in 2023.

🐉 J.M.M. Bober – author of the novels The Moons of Jupiter and Kawanah Island. Probably the only representative of the queer young adult urban fantasy genre in Poland.

∞ Małgorzata Büthner-Zawadzka – author of Warsaw Through Women Writers’ Eyes and Women and LGBTs Together for Equality. Doctor of Humanities and an openly autistic person.

📜 Błażej Warkocki – literary scholar, literary critic, professor at Adam Mickiewicz University. Co-editor of Disorientations. Anthology of Polish Queer Literature.

📖 Anna Kujawska-Kot – author of BodyTexts. Literary and Film Representations of Trans Identity, Doctor of Humanities at the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Polish Studies.
