Each year, more and more “trans-friendly” specialists emerge – doctors who use our preferred pronouns from the moment we enter the office, psychologists who reduce the number of required tests, or diagnosticians who are willing to observe us for just a few months instead of the previous two years.
However, none of these changes address the most important problem with trans “diagnostics” – there is nothing to diagnose here, and the best expert on the need for transition is the person making that decision. At this meeting, Nina Kuta and Dr. Katarzyna Marzęda from the Tranzycja.pl team will talk about how a system works in which the doctor is an advisor, not a decision-maker, why current solutions do not protect trans people, and how we can fight for the informed consent model.
